Meditate: I Kings 18:38 Then fire from the LORD came down and burned the sacrifice, the wood, the stones, and the ground around the altar. It also dried up the water in the ditch.
On the day the prophets of Baal came to make a sacrifice to their god, they had no doubt in their minds that he would answer their request and answer by fire. If he answered by fire, that would prove to all of Israel that he is the true God. But to their surprise, he never responded. There was no fire. Not even a spark could be witnessed.
We must be careful that we only put our confidence in the Great Existing One, The Great I AM, our God Jehovah. There are other gods. They have mouths, but they cannot speak. They have eyes, but they cannot see. Ears they have, but they cannot hear. They have noses, but they cannot smell. They have hands, but they cannot feel. They have feet, but they cannot walk. No sounds come from their throats. People who make idols will be like them, and so will those who trust in them. Trust in the Lord, he is our helper and our protection. Psalm 115:5-9
When the Elijah the prophet called on the one true God, He answered by fire. The fire was so powerful that it even lapped up the water that was in the trench surrounding the altar. After Jehovah showed up with evidence of fire and power, all of Israel was convinced at that moment, He alone is God!
Beloved, I encourage you to desire the presence of the True and Living God in every area of your life. Do not be deceived and follow or bow to idols that cannot help in time of trouble, but put your total trust in the True and Living God. Become more aware of His presence and experience the glory of His goodness!
