Remove The Mask

Ecclesiastes 4:9-12  Two are better than one, Because they have a good reward for their labor. 10 For is they fall, one will lift up his companion. But woe to him who is alone when he falls, for he has no one to help him up. 11 Again, if two lie down together, they will keep warm; But how can one be warm alone. 12 Though one may be overpowered by another, two can withstand him.

A sweet lady that I recently met that was diagnosed with breast cancer, has been such an inspiration to me! I do not know her personally, but I follow her story. She is empowered by a positive attitude as she works with her doctors on her journey to health and wellness. Even on the days her body is racked with  pain, her post are positive and encouraging.  Her faith and confidence is in the Lord and it shows.  She frequently shares her love for God and for others. Although she goes to chemo every
week; she is not discouraged, but faces each treatment with the optimism of finishing strong.

In Ecclesiastes chapter 4, Solomon makes a valid point concerning the necessity of a partner, friend, family member or spouse...by saying "Two are better than one." He demonstrates in the text the importance of sharing our lives with someone. The scripture also shows, cooperating with others has advantages. Life is designed for companionship, not isolation, for intimacy, not loneliness.

This is especially true when on a journey to health and wellness. At the onset of an illness, you may feel like you don't want anyone to know. I can relate to this because when I was diagnosed with breast cancer, that was the decision that I made. I truly believed it would be easier for me to handle if no one knew about the cancer with the exception of my family and closest friends. But the more I tried to carry this burden alone, the heavier it became. Then one day God spoke to my heart and told me to "remove the mask, and erase the stigma." I am naturally a private person by nature and my family used to always say I was "Too Private." But, I had been able to rationalize this behavior because I had witnessed the same pattern of behavior in my mother. Due to my own actions, I was going at it alone.  I was not open to receive help or support from others.

When God challenged me to "remove the mask, and erase the stigma," I was very reluctant. I was already on an emotional roller coaster and my concern was people; what would say about me. I am so glad God delivered me from the opinions of other people. I not only opened up to people, but I allowed people to help me. When (the lady) my sister shared her post today about the lady that was going with her to chemo, it blessed me! It reminded me of my Chemo Buddy. A Chemo Buddy is that person that you allow into a very personal, private, intimate part of your life. During chemotherapy, so many things can occur...so many things could possibly go wrong. The presence of someone being there is so important. To have someone walk with you on your journey to health and wellness is a God-send. God sends special people into our lives to walk beside us on our journey, to assist us, to pray for and with us, and to provide a listening ear.

I encourage you, it may seem difficult, but don't hide or hide behind your illness. Do not allow the emotions of fear, guilt, shame, or pain to prevent you from receiving the help God has prepared for you. Deal with it head on and with a positive attitude. Take away its power by allowing others to help you and pray for you while you are on your journey. There is power in agreement and when others pray with you and for you power is released.

My Chemo Buddy during the time of chemotherapy treatments is named Cherri. She walked with me every step of the way, and I am so grateful for her sacrifice. Who is that person God has sent to walk with you on your journey? If you don't have one presently, pray and ask God to send a person into your life. Your ________ (you fill the blank) Buddy... Will He do it? Yes, He will!
